CSV Import issues for Exchanges

TL;DR: Always re-import your CSV using the correct importer and unedited files. Most issues come from the wrong file format or corrupted structure after opening in Excel. Make sure to check for import restrictions, supported data types, and always create a backup before deleting or re-importing. For advanced cases, use the Custom Importer or contact support.

Common CSV Import Problems

CSV import issues are usually caused by one of the following:

  • Wrong file used for the exchange

  • File format altered by opening in Excel or similar software

  • CSV data not covering all transaction types

  • Overlapping or duplicate imports

The first step in troubleshooting is to re-import the CSV. Navigate to the appropriate CSV importer page and follow the steps exactly.

Example: Re-Import of Phemex CSV Data

  1. Double-check that you downloaded the correct file from your exchange.

  2. Do not open the file in Excel or spreadsheet tools—they may modify date or number formatting.

  3. If you need to view the file, use a text-based editor like Notepad++.

  4. Create a backup of your CoinTracking account.

  5. Go to Transactions > Bulk Edit/Delete and remove all entries from the problematic CSV (e.g., "Phemex").

  6. Return to the Phemex CSV Importer and re-import the file exactly as instructed.

CSV Import Page Reminders

  • Review restrictions and limitations shown on the CSV import page.

  • Check the supported transaction types listed on the right side of the importer.

Many issues arise when trying to import unsupported data (e.g., staking or airdrops) that the exchange did not include in its export.

When Exchange CSVs Are Incomplete

Not all exchanges provide full data sets via CSV. If data is missing:

  • Manually enter the missing transactions via the Transactions page.

  • Refer to the importer page for guidance on what is or isn’t included.

Advanced & Support Options

If CSV files still don’t work correctly:

  • Use the Custom Importer for more complex CSV formats (recommended for experienced users).

  • If you continue having issues, contact CoinTracking Support with a copy of the CSV file and a description of the problem.

Summary CSV issues usually stem from file format changes or wrong importer selection. Always use original, unmodified files and follow the importer instructions exactly. When in doubt, consult the exchange’s CSV help section or reach out to our support team.
