How to Identify and Rename the Correct Ticker in CoinTracking

In this article, we’ll guide you on how to identify the correct ticker for your transactions in CoinTracking, ensuring accurate tracking and reporting.

Identifying the correct ticker is crucial for reflecting accurate data in CoinTracking. Our tickers can be found in the Coin Trends section. Below, we outline two primary methods to locate and validate the correct ticker: using the Contract ID or searching directly by ticker name. We also include step-by-step instructions for adjusting tickers within CoinTracking.

This article is separated into four different sections:

1) Finding the correct ticker via Contract ID

2) Finding the correct ticker via ticker name

3) Adjusting the ticker in CoinTracking

4) Additional Information

1) Finding the correct ticker via Contract ID

For many cryptocurrencies, the Contract ID is the most reliable way to identify the correct ticker. CoinTracking sources its data from trusted platforms like CoinMarketCap (CMC) and CoinGecko (CG).

Steps to find and use the Contract ID

1) Locate the Contract ID on CoinMarketCap (CMC) or on CoinGecko (CG)

  • Search for the desired ticker
  • Scroll to the "Contracts" section
  • Copy the displayed Contract ID

CoinMarketCap:

CoinGecko:

2) Paste the Contract ID into CoinTracking

  • Navigate to Coin Trends in your CoinTracking account
  • Paste the copied Contract ID into the search field

Please note: Not all coins have a Contract ID. Additionally, some coins may not be searchable by Contract ID in CoinTracking. In this case, you can search by ticker name.

2) Finding the correct ticker via ticker name

If the Contract ID isn’t available, you can search for the coin by its ticker name.

Steps to Search by Ticker Name

1) Search for the ticker in the Coin Trends

2) Compare the results with the pricing and currency on CMC or CG to ensure accuracy. Pay close attention to whether the price is listed in USD, EUR, or another currency.

Compare the Price to CoinMarketCap or CoinGecko to make sure you have the correct ticker:

Please note: The prices of coins may slightly differ between CoinTracking and CoinMarketCap (CMC) or CoinGecko (CG). This variation occurs because CoinTracking and CMC/CG retrieve their price data at different time intervals. Such slight discrepancies are normal.

3) Adjusting the Ticker in CoinTracking

a) For a Single Transaction

  • Open the Transactions page
  • Click on the Currency/Ticker field for the relevant transaction
  • Enter the correct ticker

b) For Multiple Transactions

Mark multiple transactions of the same transaction type by holding down the CTRL key on your keyboard in order to modify the ticker for all selected entries simultaneously.

c) For Bulk Changes

Use the Overwrite Coins feature to update many transactions at once.

We have created an easy to follow guide to overwrite tickers in bulk:
