Data Retention: Keeping Your Data After You Cancel

TL;DR: When you cancel a paid plan, your data (transactions, imports, tax history and reports) is deleted 90 days after your subscription ends. The Data Retention Plan lets you keep your full history, so you can re-subscribe anytime and pick up where you left off instead of starting a new import from scratch.

What is Data Retention?

Data Retention is a low-cost plan that preserves your CoinTracking data after your paid subscription ends. Think of it as a parking spot for an inactive account: instead of losing everything, your account and its full history stay safe until you decide to come back.

What happens if I cancel without it?

If you cancel and do not keep Data Retention:

  • All of your transactions are permanently deleted 90 days after your current subscription ends.
  • Your imports, tax history and reports are erased for good.
  • Re-importing everything later can take hours to days.
  • Some exchanges limit access to older history, so parts of it may be impossible to recover.

What does Data Retention keep?

With Data Retention active, your account keeps:

  • All of your transactions.
  • Your imports, tax history and reports.
  • View-only access to your history until you re-subscribe.

You keep everything. You simply cannot add or edit data or run new reports until you start a paid plan again.

How much does it cost?

Data Retention costs 19 EUR/USD per year (in your account currency) and is billed yearly. Billing starts when your current plan ends, so you are not charged twice for the same period.

How do I get Data Retention?

It appears automatically during cancellation:

  • Go to Settings and open Billing.
  • Start the cancellation of your subscription.
  • On the "Before you cancel" step, choose Switch to Data Retention instead of continuing to cancel.

Can I re-subscribe later?

Yes. You can re-subscribe at any time and resume instantly, with all of your history already in place. There is no need to re-import or rebuild anything.

Who can use Data Retention?

Data Retention is currently available to subscribers who pay through Stripe, and it appears in the cancellation flow. Support for other payment methods such as PayPal is planned to follow.
